Martyn Sloman trained as an economist and specialised in management education and training. He held senior positions in both the public and private sectors. Latterly he wrote and taught extensively on skills development in the modern economy. He has now retired but still occasionally writes on social and political issues, delivered from a left of centre perspective.

Before his retirement Martyn held Visiting Professorships at three UK Universities and one South African University. He has written seven books and many journal articles and has lectured and presented to Universities, Conferences and Colleges in twenty countries across five continents. He has been the keynote speaker at the European Commission Training Day in Brussels and spoken by invitation to the Central Training Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.

Martyn is a life-long Labour Party member and stood as a Parliamentary candidate in the 1970s and 80s. He was the Parliamentary Agent in the North Norfolk Constituency in the 2015 General Election. He occasionally blogs as ‘leftyoldman’ on national and local politics. The blog can be accessed here.

His 2015 e-book – Labour’s failure and my small part in it: a memoir for my grandchildren – is available for download. It can be accessed as an e-book by clicking here. It can also be downloaded free-of-charge as a PDF file by clicking the image on the right handside.

He campaigned actively against Brexit and wrote on the potential impact on the local economy. See his 2018 paper on the Impact of Brexit on North Norfolk (here).

Further details of his career and a list of his books and articles are set out on the accompanying biography and publications page.

Martyn lives in Norfolk and London.
